The Old Curmudgeon Says …
By Edgar Barryton
There was a man who worked for the Post Office whose job it was to process all the mail that had illegible addresses. One day, a letter came addressed in a shaky handwriting to God. He thought he should open it to see what it was about. The letter read:
Dear God,
I am an 83-year-old widow, living on a very small pension. Yesterday someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it, which was all the money I had until my next pension check. Next Sunday is Christmas, and I had invited two of my friends over for dinner. Without that money, I have nothing to buy food with. I have no family to turn to, and you are my only hope. Can you please help me?
Sincerely,
Edna
The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to all the other workers. Each one dug into his or her wallet and came up with a few dollars. By the time he made the rounds, he had collected $96, which they put into an envelope and sent to the woman. The rest of the day, all the workers felt a warm glow thinking of Edna and the dinner she would be able to share with her friends.
Christmas came and went. A few days later, another letter came from the old lady to God. All the workers gathered around while the letter was opened. It read:
Dear God,
How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your gift of love, I was able to fix a glorious dinner for my friends. We had a very nice day and I told my friends of your wonderful gift.
By the way, there was $4 missing. I think it must have been those thieving bastards at the Post Office.
Sincerely,
Edna

Golf Swingers
Old Sam stood over his tee shot on the 450 yard 18th hole for what seemed an eternity.
He waggled, looked up, looked down, waggled again, but didn’t start his back swing.
Finally his exasperated partner asked, “What in the world is taking so long?”
“My wife is watching me from the clubhouse balcony,” Sam explained. “I want to make a perfect shot.”
His companion replied: “You don’t have a chance in hell of hitting her from here.

A rose is a rose …
Two elderly gentlemen are playing cards on Saturday evening just as they have done for the past 50 years.
Gus replied, “Why, ever since my wife sent me to that memory school, I haven’t had any problems at all.”
“Memory school? What memory school?”
Gus thought for a moment, “Oh, what’s that flower that’s red with thorns? A really pretty flower . . . “
“A rose?” asked Red.
“Yeah, that’s it!” Gus turned to his wife and mumbled, “Hey, Rose! What’s the name of that memory school you sent me to?”

Never too old
A 60-year-old man went to a doctor for a check-up. The doctor told him, “You’re in terrific shape. There’s nothing wrong with you. Why, you might live forever; you have the body of a 35-year-old. By the way, how old was your father when he died?”
The 60-year-old responded, “Did I say he was dead?”
The doctor was surprised and asked, “How old is he and is he very active?”
The 60-year-old responded, “Well, he is 82 years old and he still goes skiing three times a season and surfing three times a week during the summer.”
The doctor couldn’t believe it. So, he asked, “Well, how old was your grandfather when he died?”
The 60-year-old responded again, “Did I say he was dead?”
The doctor was astonished. He said, “You mean to tell me you are 60 years old and both your father and your grandfather are alive? Is your grandfather very active?”
The 60-year-old said, “He goes skiing at least once a season and surfing once a week during the summer. Not only that,” said the patient, “my grandfather is 106 years old, and next week he is getting married again.”
The doctor said, “At 106 years! Why on earth would your grandfather want to get married?”
His patient looked up at the doctor and said, “Did I say he wanted to?”
